Lara's practical work has evolved from employment in the social services sector working with families in crisis, to educational environments, to providing individual psychotherapy for adolescents and adults. She incorporates components from a range of models of psychotherapy. A psychodynamic approach is used for treatment of more pervasive long-standing challenges. When the focus is on resolving specific symptoms or problem areas, cognitive-behavioral modalities are typically more effective. Lara works clinically with many first responders, providing support for complex trauma and other issues.

Lara also offers a range of psychological consultation and psychological assessment services. These include career planning, cognitive, psychological, autism, developmental and psychoeducational assessments. Psychological testing and therapeutic interventions for W.S.I.B clients, and those suffering with psychological difficulties related to motor vehicle accidents are also an area of focus. Lara oversees the activities of all clinicians in the practice, acting as their clinical supervisor.

Lara's primary area of focus at this time is on the development of programs that augment resilience, and identify mental health issues early in first responder organizations.
