Family Therapy

Family therapy typically involves a number of family members. Members can include the nuclear family, or extend beyond this. At times the family will be seen as a group and on other occasions, clients will be seen individually. We use a number of modalities for treatment, including Emotional Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) and Family Based Therapy (FBT).

Some areas of focus typically include but are not limited to:

  • Parenting support
  • Therapeutic interventions for behavioural challenges in children using Ross Greene?s Collaborative and Proactive Solutions Model
  • Specific interventions for children with Learning Difficulties, particularly in the area of Executive Functioning and Inattention, and Impulsivity due to ADHD.
  • Emotional Focused Family therapy for families and children
  • Cognitive Behavioural interventions for children with anxiety, phobias, and OCD
  • Treatment for families with individuals struggling with eating disorders

Parent Consultation Services

A consultant will work with parents and families to address challenges occurring in the home, school and/or community. Parent consultation is often brief and provides parents with strategies to increase positive child behaviour and decrease undesirable behaviour.  Common referral concerns include parenting challenges, power struggles, non-compliance, emotional regulation, communication and problem-solving skills.
